After graduating from the Graphic Design Department of Dumlupınar University in 2012, Murat Palta worked at various advertising agencies in Istanbul. In 2013, he participated in a miniature and illumination art workshop at the International Festival of Miniature and Illumination held in Tlemcen, Algeria. In 2017, he was invited to take part in the 4th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art. In 2018, he designed the official poster for the 37th Istanbul Film Festival. In 2019, he collaborated with major brands such as Apple and Levi’s. The artist currently lives and works in Istanbul.
At first glance, Murat Palta’s miniatures resemble pages from an ancient manuscript. However, by incorporating elements of pop culture, he creates a contemporary visual language. Much like the Ottoman-era nakkaş (illuminators), Palta illustrates the literature, cinema, and events of his own time. Yet unlike the traditional nakkaş, he speaks directly to future audiences. Rather than simply portraying pop culture in miniature form, he uses it as a tool to explore the relevance of mythology, philosophy, and historical events in today’s world. As a result, the characters in his compositions often shed their original meanings and become supporting roles in a deeper narrative. Embracing the inherent absurdity of anachronism, he reflects the present day through dark humor and a palette of vivid, exaggerated colors.
