Submissions can be made at any time, from any part of the world. There is no submission fee for the Pictoplasma Animation Festival if entered through this site.
All entered animated short films (experimental, narrative, non-narrative, commissioned, or student films) submitted before January 11 will be considered for the 23rd Pictoplasma festival selection, scheduled to take place in Berlin 29 April – 2 May 2027.
The average length of work accepted as part of the official selection is between 01’00” and 15’00” minutes. Entries must feature high-grade, original character design, and focus on character-driven storytelling, world-building and visuals. Submissions generated in whole or in significant part by artificial intelligence (AI) tools will most likely not be considered by the (human) jury.

Since its inception in 2004, each spring Pictoplasma transforms Berlin into an international meeting point for a diverse scene of artists and creatives, trailblazing the face of tomorrow’s visual culture.
The central conference brings together 900+ key players on a global scale and features 20+ lectures by forward-thinking creatives, while the accompanying animation festival showcases cutting edge short films, focussing on fresh character-driven visuals and narratives, with most of the filmmakers present in Q&A rounds.
Further annual conferences and screenings take place later each year – from New York and London to Copenhagen and the Balkans – acting as unique opportunities for the regional scenes to network.
