Amedeo Capelli
IT
Amedeo Capelli is an Italian artist and designer based in the province of Varese, whose practice bridges the realms of art, craftsmanship, and mechanics. Specializing in automata—mechanical sculptures animated by intricate, non-electronic mechanisms—Capelli transforms wood and simple materials into whimsical moving worlds. His creations, characterized by a blend of humor and precision, capture the poetry of motion through the most unassuming means.
With a lifelong fascination for tinkering, dismantling, and rebuilding, Capelli’s creative journey evolved from crafting wooden crates in a small workshop to developing a distinctive practice rooted in curiosity and invention. In 2021, he founded Stoccafisso Design, a studio devoted to the making and sharing of automata through online platforms. What began as an experiment soon flourished into a full-time vocation, merging traditional handcraft with contemporary digital storytelling.
Guided by a deep respect for simplicity, Capelli imbues each piece with expressive movement and understated character. His work invites viewers into a dialogue between art and mechanism, echoing the timeless ingenuity of Leonardo da Vinci while celebrating the joy of human imagination in motion.
