Toco-Oco
Toco-Oco is the moniker of Brazilian artist couple Lara Alcântara and Guilherme Neumann. In Portuguese, ‘Toco’ means ‘stomp’, and ‘Oco’ (hollow) refers to the potential to contain an entire imagination, or a womb capable of generating life. After graduating from the Fine Arts University of São Paulo, Lara and Guiherme joined forces to create otherworldly creatures that they turn into drawings, embroidery and doll-sized sculptures, employing materials such as wood, resin or wax. Inspired by indigenous art from and beyond Brazil, their work incorporates mystical, natural and spiritual symbolism, attempting to recover the connection between the human and the divine.
